When a special friend first told me about ‘The Plant Paradox’ book by Dr. Steven Gundry, I was honestly skeptical. It’s a common belief that all vegetables are good for you, right? So when she mentioned that some might be damaging, it went against everything I thought I knew about healthy eating.

Despite my reservations, she saw the struggles I was facing with my health and energy levels and thought this book could hold the answers. In a gesture that would later change the course of my nutritional journey, she gifted me ‘The Plant Paradox’ book for Christmas in 2019. At first, I was annoyed as I told her I wasn’t interested; so the book sat on my shelf for a while, collecting dust.

I’m going to be real with you – at the time, I wasn’t just dubious; I was downright dismissive of the idea that a book could revise my entire concept of food and wellness. But as time went by, I finally decided to open it and see what he had to say. And that’s when things began to make sense and I had trouble putting the book down.

Gundry’s work spoke about lectins – a type of protein found in certain vegetables and other foods – and the potential havoc they could wreak on the body. This was not just about challenging dietary norms; it was about a whole new approach to eating for better health. Once I started reading, the pieces of the puzzle started to fit together for me and Dr Gundry explained so well in his book. Little did I know that my journey with Dr. Gundry’s insights was just beginning.

Turning the Pages: The Lectin-Free Lightbulb Moment

I finally decided to read ‘The Plant Paradox’ book by Dr. Steven Gundry a few months after receiving it as a holiday gift. Initially, I was pretty skeptical. The claim that certain vegetables could be detrimental to one’s health sounded far-fetched. Aren’t all veggies supposed to be good for you? But as I turned each page, I started to see a different perspective.

As mentioned earlier, the book shed light on lectins, a type of protein found in many plants, which Dr. Gundry believes can cause inflammation and other health issues in some people when consumed regularly. The concept was new to me, and I started to connect the dots between my diet, the stomach pains I get after eating something and the energy slumps I often experienced. It wasn’t just about cutting out junk food; it was more nuanced, delving into the types of ‘healthy’ foods I was consuming.

My ah-ha moment came when I considered the possibility that my body might be reacting negatively to certain ‘health foods.’ The book made a compelling case, emphasizing the importance of not just what we eat, but also how our bodies respond to different foods. With each chapter, my skepticism turned into curiosity and gradually gave way to a sense of enlightenment. The idea that making specific dietary changes could dramatically affect my health resonated with me deeply.

I began to understand why my friend had insisted I read this book. My own health and energy levels were not where I wanted them to be, despite my efforts. As I absorbed more of Dr. Gundry’s teachings, I came to see that his recommendations could be the missing puzzle piece in my health journey. My initial reluctance had morphed into a passionate curiosity, and I was eager to find out if adopting a lectin-free diet could improve my situation.

  • Hello.

I would like to ask: How does going Lectin-Free impact your daily life, was it harder to find veggies for your meals or did you have to change any major part of your daily eating habits?

Also when it comes to the products which would be the best 2 to start with?

    • Hi Colin, thank you for your comment.  It was easy actually to go lectin free, especially as I didn’t like tomatoes anyway and eggplant would give me cramps and I didn’t know why until now.  So it was just eating more of the vegetables that I preferred which was cruciferous vegetables.

The best 2 products to start with will depend on your health issues, but Vital Reds are always good to start with.  Then either Total Restore, Bio Complete 3 or even Lectin Shield.  But that main thing is to stop eating the foods affecting your gut, to help it repair.  Otherwise it’s pointless to get supplements, when you’re still eating foods that are  damaging your gut wall.  Hope that helps 🙂
